How to Connect QuickBooks to Claude in the UK (Intuit's Connector Is US-Only)
Intuit publishes an official QuickBooks connector for Claude, and if you are in the United States it is the simplest way to ask Claude about your books. If you are in the UK it does not work: Intuit's own help article states the connector is currently available to US customers only, and UK users who try it get a connection error. This guide covers what the official connector does, why it isn't the answer for a UK QuickBooks Online company, and how to connect QuickBooks to Claude through Tugger instead, with full VAT-aware financial data and a read-only connection.
Intuit's QuickBooks connector for Claude
The official connector appears in Claude's connector directory. Once connected, Claude can read profit and loss and cash flow figures, and Intuit has since added the ability to create invoices, send payment links and look up payroll details from inside a chat.
Two things to know before relying on it:
- Region. As of Intuit's current documentation it is US-only. Intuit says it is working on other regions but has given no timeline. A UK QuickBooks Online company will fail to connect.
- Write access. The connector can create sales documents and move money through QuickBooks Payments. For reporting that is more access than you want an analyst, or a mistyped question, to have.
If you are US-based and want interactive lookups, use it. For everyone else, and for reporting, read on.
How to connect QuickBooks to Claude in the UK
Tugger's QuickBooks connector works with UK QuickBooks Online companies. It syncs 35 tables from QuickBooks on a schedule into a managed data warehouse and exposes that warehouse to Claude through a read-only MCP server. Claude queries the warehouse, so nothing it does can touch your ledger, and the warehouse carries the rules for questions QuickBooks makes awkward, such as netting credit memos and refund receipts off invoiced revenue or separating VAT from ex-VAT totals.
What you need
- A Tugger account. You can start a free 10-day trial if you don't have one.
- Admin access to your QuickBooks Online company.
- A Claude plan that supports connectors (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise).
Step 1: connect QuickBooks to Tugger
- Log in to Tugger, go to Connectors and choose QuickBooks.
- Sign in to Intuit when prompted, pick the company you want to connect and authorise Tugger.
- Choose a start date for the historical data you want to bring across and save.
Tugger runs a first sync and then refreshes on a schedule. You can see sync status and history in the Tugger dashboard.
Step 2: add Tugger's MCP server to Claude
- In Tugger, open AI Insights and copy your MCP server URL.
- In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector.
- Name it "Tugger" and paste the MCP server URL.
- Click Add, then Connect, and sign in to Tugger when prompted.
In any new chat, open the connectors menu and switch Tugger on. Claude can now see the tables Tugger has synced from QuickBooks.
Step 3: ask your first question
"What was our net revenue by month for the last twelve months, excluding VAT and after credit notes and refunds?"
Claude will identify the invoice, credit memo and refund tables, run the query and return the result. That question is a good first test precisely because it is one the official connector and a CSV export both tend to get wrong.

- Which customers have overdue invoices, how much is outstanding, and how long overdue is each one?
- What is our gross margin by product or service line this year?
- How do this year's expenses by account compare with budget?
- What did we pay each supplier last quarter, and which bills are still open?
- Which estimates converted to invoices, and at what rate by customer?

Tugger's QuickBooks connector is for QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Desktop was withdrawn from the UK in 2023 and is not supported.

If Intuit opens the connector to the UK, the two will sit together well: the official connector for day-to-day lookups, Tugger for the reporting layer and for anything that combines QuickBooks with the rest of the business.
