How to Connect Cin7 to Claude (Cin7 Core and Cin7 Omni)
Cin7 holds your stock, sales orders, purchase orders and customer records. Claude can answer questions about all of it in natural language, but only if it has a way to reach the data. This guide walks through connecting Cin7 Core (formerly DEAR Inventory) or Cin7 Omni to Claude using Tugger's built-in MCP server, so you can ask things like "which SKUs are fully allocated" or "who are my top ten customers this quarter" and get an answer from your own numbers.
Tugger has a separate connector for each Cin7 product, because they are different systems with different data models. The steps on the Tugger and Claude side are the same for both; only the Cin7 credentials and the data that syncs differ, and both are covered below.
What you can ask once Cin7 is connected to Claude
Tugger syncs your Cin7 data on a schedule into a managed data warehouse, then exposes that warehouse to Claude through an MCP server. Claude queries the warehouse, not Cin7 directly, which keeps the connection read-only and means Claude never touches your production system.
Typical questions:
- What was our net revenue by month for the last twelve months, after credit notes?
- Who are our top ten customers by sales value this year?
- Which customers have unpaid or part-paid invoices, and how much is outstanding?
- What is stock on hand by location for our top-selling SKUs?
- Which SKUs are fully allocated with no free stock?
Claude writes the query, runs it against the warehouse, and explains the result. You can follow up in the same conversation, ask for a chart, or ask Claude to compare two periods.
What you need
- A Tugger account. You can start a free 10-day trial if you don't have one.
- Admin access to your Cin7 Core or Cin7 Omni account, so you can create API credentials.
- A Claude plan that supports connectors (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise).
Step 1: connect Cin7 to Tugger
Log in to Tugger, go to Connectors and choose either Cin7 (for Cin7 Core) or Cin7 Omni. Tugger will ask for API credentials, which you create inside Cin7. The location differs by product.
Cin7 Core
- In Cin7 Core, go to Integrations, then API.
- Create a new API application and give it a name such as "Tugger".
- Copy the Account ID and Application Key.
- Paste both into the Tugger Cin7 connector and save.
Your Cin7 Core subscription needs the API and Automations module enabled. If you can't see the API option under Integrations, check your plan with Cin7.
Cin7 Omni
- In Cin7 Omni, go to Integrations, then API v1.
- Add a new API connection and give it a name such as "Tugger".
- Copy the API username and API key.
- Paste both into the Tugger Cin7 Omni connector and save.
Once saved, Tugger runs a first sync and then refreshes on a schedule. You can see sync status and history in the Tugger dashboard.
Step 2: add Tugger's MCP server to Claude
- In Tugger, open AI Insights and copy your MCP server URL.
- In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector.
- Name it "Tugger" and paste the MCP server URL.
- Click Add, then Connect, and sign in to Tugger when prompted.
In any new chat, open the connectors menu and switch Tugger on. Claude can now see the tables Tugger has synced from Cin7.
Step 3: ask your first question
Start with something simple to confirm the connection is working:
"Show me stock on hand by location for our five best-selling products."
Claude will identify the relevant tables, run the query and return the result. From there you can ask follow-ups, request a chart, or ask Claude to explain how it built the query.
What syncs from Cin7 Core versus Cin7 Omni
The Cin7 Core connector syncs 57 tables and the Cin7 Omni connector 24, reflecting how much each product exposes through its API. Both cover the operational core. Cin7 Core adds a full financial layer; Cin7 Omni adds quotes, vouchers, serial numbers and pack-level pricing.
| Data | Cin7 Core | Cin7 Omni |
|---|---|---|
| Products, variants and categories | Yes | Yes |
| Stock on hand by location or branch | Yes | Yes |
| Sales orders, invoices and payments | Yes | Yes |
| Credit notes | Yes | Yes |
| Quotes | No | Yes |
| Purchase orders | Yes | Yes |
| Customers and suppliers | Yes | Yes |
| Stock transfers and adjustments | Yes | Yes |
| Stock takes and write-offs | Yes | No |
| Bills of materials and production | Yes, including production runs and work centres | Yes |
| Price tiers | Yes | Yes, per variant and per pack size |
| Serial numbers | No | Yes |
| Deals and vouchers | Deals | Vouchers |
| Chart of accounts, bank accounts, journals and ledger transactions | Yes | No |
Cin7 Omni does not expose cartons through its API, so carton data is not available in either tool. If you need an entity that isn't listed, ask us.
Why go through a warehouse rather than connecting Claude to Cin7 directly?
Some tools connect an AI assistant straight to the Cin7 API. That works for one-off lookups, but it has three drawbacks for reporting.
- Write access. A direct API connection can often create orders or adjust stock. Tugger's MCP server is read-only by design, so a mistyped question can't change anything in Cin7.
- Query load. Analytical questions such as "net revenue by month by customer" mean pulling a lot of records through the API every time, and in Cin7's case combining invoice and credit note data correctly. Tugger syncs once on a schedule, and the warehouse carries the rules for questions like that so Claude gets them right.
- Single source. Once Cin7 is in the warehouse alongside Xero, HubSpot or Shopify, Claude can answer questions that span systems, such as matching Cin7 sales to Xero invoices.
Tugger is UK-based and ISO 27001:2022 certified. The same warehouse also feeds Power BI and Tableau if you use them, and the MCP server works with Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini.
